We were honoured that the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda and his wife Tunu, were able to take the time to travel to Gonja to lay the foundation stone of the Gonja Mheza Vocational Training Centre (VTC).  Also there were Ted van Dam and Dik Dekker of the Suzuki Rhino Club; Anne Kilango Malecela, the MP for Same; the District Commissioner, Herman Kapufi and many other regional, district and town officials.

The construction of the VTC is going very well.  Huge progress has been made, all overseen by Noud van Houd of the Watoto Foundation.  The bus continues to bring in students on the Rafiki wa Faru environmental education trips.  Each student is given an Activity Book and a colourful rhino toy after they have spent the day in Mkomazi.

TANAPA continue to support this programme and are very enthusiastic when welcoming the students to Mkomazi National Park. We were really pleased to welcome the Climb for Conservation team, who have just all summited Mount Kilimanjaro to raise support for elephant conservation.  All ten members of the team made the summit and we were really thrilled to meet them here in Mkomazi.
