Letter to DHL employees re rhino (Eliska) translocation
One of the things of which I am most proud is the support DHL has given to supporting animal conservation.
Over the last few years DHL has moved over twenty rare and endangered creatures to places of safety and sanctuary and this weekend we are taking care of one more.
Eliska is one of the world’s last remaining Eastern black rhinos. She’s three years old and was born and raised at Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic.
But on Sunday we will be taking her ‘home’ to Africa. And it’s quite a trip!
Her journey to Tanzania begins when she leaves the zoo at around 13:00 hours. Eliska will be safely housed in specially constructed accommodation and lifted aboard a low loader for an 8-hour trip to Leipzig Airport.
Once there, she will be transferred to DHL’s B757 livestock transporter plane to begin a 6,500km journey to her new home – arriving around dawn on Monday morning.
From Kilimanjaro Airport she will take another road trip to the Mkomazi National Park, ready to begin her new life in the wild.
We are undertaking this mission on behalf of the world famous George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust and I am delighted that we are able to use our professional expertise to make another valued contribution to wildlife conservation.
If you’d like to find out more about Eliska’s journey home, visit the myNet page here or follow the journey on social media with the hashtag #DHLRhino.
We’ll let you know how Eliska’s adventure went next week!
